Internet marketing can be very tricky and overwhelming for new businesses, as they try to let the world know about what they have to offer. The good news is, internet marketing has become the most effective form of marketing, because the internet is part of the everyday life of the consumer. Here are 10 tips for successful internet marketing:
- Goal Setting
Like any athlete, you are working towards being better at what you do. A baseball player might try work on their hitting during the offseason to improve their average the next year. Internet marketing is similar. What is the point of your website? Is it to spread awareness or sell products? Start with smaller goals to work up to the big ones for your business.
2. Be Motivated
Lead your team to victory. Be committed to your business and improve your internet marketing strategy constantly. Be sure to be up to date with trends or news, so consumers will be directed to your site. Optimization is key
3. Constantly Create and Optimize

In 2012, the Seattle Seahawks unveiled their new jerseys, and they were awesome! Suddenly, everyone was a Seahawks fan. Make your website unique and colorful to increase traffic! It should be fun and interactive, but professional at the same time. Remember, it must be user friendly too.
4. Know your Audience
How will you drive up ticket sales and fan engagement? Advertisement and promotion! The fancy thing about internet marketing is you can utilize technology tools that will cost little to nothing. Email marketing is the most effective for businesses in my opinion. As long as you have subscribers, you can direct anyone and anybody to your website with one email and one click. You’ll know who your true fans are
5. Promote, Promote, Promote!
Want to catch a game? Five stations have it on TV, the radio is broadcasting, or just simply buy a ticket. This is the same with internet marketing. Cross-platform marketing is a major aspect of effective internet marketing. Social media has so many different platforms, you should be on every single one. Well… at least the popular ones; Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat. Use the 80-20 rule, which is show non-promotion material 80% of the time and promote 20%. Don’t annoy or you’ll lose followers.
6. Determine who to Market too
Red Sox fans don’t receive Yankee news. Know who will want to see your content and who won’t. Advertise to similar or competitor audiences, because most likely those people will also be interested in your product. Family and friends don’t always work because they may not share similar interests. Lucky for businesses though, Google and other search engines track cookies, so you can directly advertise to your audience on their social media feeds without them subscribing.
7. Get Technical

You only get two technical fouls in basketball before you are ejected, no pun intended. Search engine marketing is a unique tool to utilize while internet marketing. You want your business to show up at the top of searches when users type in unique key words. GoogleAds allows companies to bid on key words based on their level of popularity. A high level of popularity with a low bidding price is usually the best direction to go. However, this is difficult to find, but if you want unique terms and your products are unique it can be extremely effective. This will increase metrics to your website.
8. Don’t Overdo It
A pitcher doesn’t throw more than 100 pitches or they will get hurt. Don’t get hurt marketing. Pace yourself for when and where you advertise. If you become overwhelmed, so will the consumer.
9. Provide Good Content

Step 5 we talked about the 80-20 rule on social media. How often do you see fitness influencers on Instagram promoting a product? Rarely, but that is how they make their money. They are always trying to inspire or educate others. Be like that fitness role model. Show you are more than just a business.
10. Reach a Goal and Continue to Build
Practice makes perfect even when you’re perfect. If you wanted to reach a certain lead count and you did, set a bigger one for the future. Another great thing about technology today is you can analyze data based on your marketing campaigns, which will help you learn what was the most effective. There is always room to get better.
